Glory Daze: The Life and Times of Michael Alig (2015)

Documentary, Biography, Crime

New York City. 1987. A new group of individuals arrives to fill the artistic power vacuum created by Andy Warhol\'s untimely death and the demise of his \"Factory\", in the form of The Club Kids. They would reign supreme over The City\'s nightlife through an era of decadence, debauchery and creative heights, which culminated with the death of one of them as well as the party itself. Their undisputed leader was Michael Alig, who came to New York with dreams of working in the fashion industry, only to find himself at the head of a nightlife movement which went far beyond anyone\'s expectations, reaching outrageous proportions. It ultimately imploded catastrophically with Michael going to prison for the murder and dismemberment of fellow Club Kid and drug dealer Angel Melendez. This coincided with the death of the NYC Super-Club era.

Strange Occurrences in a Small Irish Village (2016)

Documentary

In 1879, fifteen people in the small Irish village of Knock, County Mayo bore witness to an apparition of the Virgin Mary. The village was declared a Marian Shrine and today welcomes more than one million pilgrims annually. The film builds a vibrant portrait of the phenomenon through its devotees- invalids seeking cures; the eight sibling owners of rival religious merchandise shops; a woman relieved of multiple sclerosis during a 1970s pilgrimage; feisty Mildred, advocate for gender parity for the shrine\'s handmaids; the staff of the Knock Marriage Bureau and Fr Richard Gibbons, charismatic, outward-looking Parish Priest, on a mission to entice new transatlantic visitors via Knock Airport. With its references to \"the scandals\", falling church attendances and the eighth amendment (abortion), the film presents a timely reflection on the position of the Church in modern Ireland. For the faithful it celebrates a beacon of spiritual hope; for sceptics it opens an enticing window on an anachronistic but thriving world.

In 1930, Germany was awarded the privilege of hosting the 1936 Olympic Games. However, that gesture to bring Germany back into the world community became problematic when the Nazis took over the nation in 1933, both domestically and internationally. However, a reticent Hitler was persuaded to let the event proceed for his own purposes even as the international sporting world wrestled with the moral choice of attending. What followed from those moral struggles was a tournament originally intended to foster international brotherhood being twisted into a nationalistic celebration of supposed German Aryan superiority that even the legendary athletic triumphs of African-American Olympic great Jesse Owens could not puncture completely.

All the footage was gathered from private collectors, soldiers, tourists, state institutions, even footage shot by Hitler\'s private pilot and there\'s also images captured by Eva Braun, Hitler\'s companion. Most of the images were recently discovered, some of them hidden for more than 40 years and they were all remastered and put together by director Michael Kloft.
