Rise of the Sufferfests (2016)

Documentary, Sport

Maybe it was the cast of the Today Show crawling beneath barbed wire. Or that guy from your office who looks like Rambo on Facebook. But somewhere, somehow, you\'ve probably been exposed to the muddy, messy world of obstacle course racing. OCR is the fastest growing sport... ever. In 2016, an estimated 5 million people will pay to suffer through ice, fire, electricity, barbed wire, tear gas, mud and more. And the half-billion dollar question is... WHY? WHY-when the thrust of civilization has been to make life easier-are the masses suddenly paying for pain? It\'s a question we wanted to answer, so... we set off on a big, crazy, cinematic adventure! RISE OF THE SUFFERFESTS is the first feature documentary about the global obstacle course racing (OCR) phenomenon. The film explores the history of the sport, psychology behind it, personalities that drive it, and most importantly, asks what it says about the world we\'re living in. To help shed light on the phenomenon, investigative journalist Scott Keneally enlists a motley crew of athletes and insiders from the cultish OCR community, as well as a broad range of notable experts - Morgan Spurlock, Laird Hamilton, Tim Ferriss, Hanna Rosin, AJ Jacobs and Dr. Jean Twenge, to name a few. The self-proclaimed beta-male also dives deep into the crucible, training up and tackling some of the world\'s most brutal sufferfests. Far from just a movie about mud, it\'s a film about modern life... and the journey of a \"just-enougher\" to embrace the suck and STFU in the face of fatherhood.

The Match (1999)

Comedy, Romance, Sport

The Match is a contemporary romantic comedy, set in the idyllic Highland village of Inverdoune. Wullie Smith, still carrying the physical and emotional scars of the childhood death of his younger brother, is the village milkman. A young man whose potential is concealed his gently diffident exterior, Wullie is locally known for his remarkable T.F.R. (Total Football Recall) and for his not-very-secret love for Rosemary Bailey, the breathtaking daughter of Bill Bailey, a local farmer with a curious affection for his cows. Rosemary has returned briefly to her home with a college degree before she leaves again to pursue a career in the big city. The single-street village has only two pubs - the ramshackle delights of Benny\'s Bar, spiritual home of its charmingly eccentric clientele and the sterile modernity of Le Bistro, owned by former professional footballer and preening narcissist, George Gus. But Benny\'s Bar may soon be lost forever. A bet made to settle a feud between the original owners of Benny\'s Bar and Le Bistro was made long before anyone living in the village today can remember. The ancestral feud is to be finally resolved by the result of the annual football (soccer) contest between the two bars in this hundredth year of the contest. Past form indicates poor prospects for the Benny\'s Bar team which has lost for 99 years in a row. But it is only the result of this, the hundredth game, which will determine which bar is to be closed forever by the winning side.

Hitler\'s Olympics (2016)

Documentary, History, Sport

In 1930, Germany was awarded the privilege of hosting the 1936 Olympic Games. However, that gesture to bring Germany back into the world community became problematic when the Nazis took over the nation in 1933, both domestically and internationally. However, a reticent Hitler was persuaded to let the event proceed for his own purposes even as the international sporting world wrestled with the moral choice of attending. What followed from those moral struggles was a tournament originally intended to foster international brotherhood being twisted into a nationalistic celebration of supposed German Aryan superiority that even the legendary athletic triumphs of African-American Olympic great Jesse Owens could not puncture completely.

Biography, Family, Sport

Brandon Burlsworth is perhaps the greatest walk-on in the history of college football. Brandon had always dreamed of playing for the Arkansas Razorbacks, but was considered too short and too fat to play Division I. Undeterred, Brandon took a big risk and walked on in 1994. Written off by fellow teammates and coaches, Brandon displayed dogged determination in the face of staggering odds. An extremely devoted Christian, Brandon never cursed or drank. He was genuinely humble and low-key. He worked harder than anybody, on and off the field, becoming the first Razorback to earn a Bachelor\'s and Master\'s degree while still playing. The overly-fat kid who was once an embarrassment to his teammates and an annoyance to his coaches, ended up becoming the most respected player in the history of the program, changing the lives of all he touched. Eleven days after being drafted into the NFL, Brandon was tragically killed in a car accident, crushing all who knew him. Brandon was \"too good to be true\". How could something like that happen to this guy? The age-old question slammed down upon all with terrible force: \"Why do bad things happen to good people?\" Brandon\'s story is more than mere football. It is the ultimate expression of the question \"Why?\" Greater will provide hope and inspiration as it strives to wrestle with this challenge and find reasons to trust.
